Our vision is to be the voice of brain injury in our community. Our mission is to improve the quality of life for those affected by brain injury. Mary Pat Beals, the sister of a survivor of brain injury, founded the Kansas Head Injury Foundation in 1982. She recruited a group of 23 volunteers comprised of survivors, family members and professionals to help meet the needs of those facing the same challenges as her family. With an annual budget of $3000, we incorporated in Kansas that same year, and became the fourth charted state association of the National Head Injury Foundation. The 1990’s brought changes in terminology. The national organization became the Brain Injury Association of America to better identify the significance of this type of injury. Our organization followed with the name change of Brain Injury Association of Kansas and Greater Kansas City. Since our inception, advances in medicine, trauma care and rehabilitation have reduced the number of deaths caused by brain injury, and have increased the number of people living with the consequences of brain injury. Our Mission continues to be to improve the quality of life for those affected by brain injury. Board of DirectorsOur Vision and Mission
